Grayson Station Unit 5, Overfire Air System – City of Glendale, CA

IIDS, Engineering Subcontractor to MOBOTEC USA for the “Retrofit” installation of MOBOTEC’s proprietary Rotating Opposed Fired Air (ROFA) and ROTOmix, a selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) NOx reduction technology on a 40 MWe Landfill Gas fired boiler. The Retrofit focused on installing a new Forced Draft Air Fan, Overfire Air Ductwork, Duct Supports and Platform Modifications.
IDS provided Plant Inspection, Equipment Layout & Design, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Foundation Design, and Site Support Services for the installation of the main operating systems related to the ROFA & ROTOMix - Overfire Air Systems.

Bremo Bluff Unit 4, Overfire Air System – Dominion Resources, Virginia
IDS, Engineering Subcontractor to MOBOTEC USA for the installation of MOBOTE’s proprietary Rotating Opposed Fired Air (ROFA) NOx reduction technology on a 170 MWe coal fired boiler unit. The Retrofit project focused on installing a new Forced Draft Air Fan, Primary and Secondary Air Ducting, Platform Modifications and Rerouting/Modification of Boiler Pressure Parts.
IDS provided 3D Plant Modeling, Equipment Layout & Design, Structural & Piping Stress Engineering, as well as, Construction Management for the installation of the main operating systems related to the new ROFA “Over Fire Air Ducting” System.

Seocheon Power Plant Units 1 & Unit 2, South Korea

IDS, Engineering Subcontractor to Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation was contracted to engineer and design the new OFA ducting system for Seocheon Low NOx Retrofit. The Seocheon boilers, Unit 1 and Unit 2 are arc-fired units designed and built by Hankook Heavy Industry and Combustion Engineering Company in 1983. Each Unit is rated at 200 MWe and burn a combination of Anthracite coal and No. 6 fuel oil.

Foster Wheeler was contracted by KEPCO to supply and install Foster Wheeler’s Cyclone Preheat Burners with Vent –To-OFA system. The Scope of Work required new Coal Feed Cyclones, OFA Ports, OFA Feed Duct, and a new Upper Tertiary Air Duct. As with most retrofits, space was very limited and therefore IDS sent a team of designers to the site to develop an “as built” 3D Model of both units to be used for design and interference checking.

IDS’s Scope of Work included the following systems and components:

  • New OFA Feed Duct
  • New Upper Tertiary Air Duct
  • Demolition Drawings
  • Platform and Structural Support Modifications

IDS provided Foster Wheeler with Duct Layout & Design, Stress Analysis and Duct Support Engineering services. In addition, IDS was responsible for boiler modifications and piping interference modifications for all Code and Non-Code piping systems. IDS also provided Design/Drafting Services including: development of all required duct, piping and equipment 3D Models, General Arrangement Drawings, and Ducting Field Assembly Drawings.

IDS performed all the required Code Calculations, Stress Analysis and Support Engineering for all of the ducting and piping systems in accordance with ASME Boiler Codes and applicable local Building Codes. IDS also developed and provided all required load calculations; Seismic & Wind loads, Thermal Expansion Movements, Structural Steel, Platforms, as well as determining all duct and pipe loads, locations and designs
